Part 1 · Sections 1–14
Horse Boarding (Livery)
By enrolling in one of the Alterreno Horse Boarding Memberships (Passage™, Rider™, Classic™, Heritage™, Custom™ or Old Soul™), the Owner accepts and agrees to the following Terms and Conditions.
Definitions
For the purposes of these Terms and Conditions, the following terms shall have the meanings set out below.
Agreement The contractual relationship between Alterreno and the Owner, comprising these Terms and Conditions, the selected Horse Boarding Membership, the applicable fees and any additional arrangements expressly agreed in writing.
Alterreno Alterreno Club, the equestrian facility and organisation responsible for providing the boarding, horse management and related services described in this Agreement.
Owner The individual or legal entity entering into this Agreement and responsible for the Horse, its boarding arrangements, payments and contractual obligations. The Owner must be the Horse’s legal owner or a person duly authorised to enter into this Agreement on behalf of the legal owner.
Horse The horse or horses identified in the Agreement and admitted, or scheduled for admission, to Alterreno under the selected Horse Boarding Membership.
Horse Boarding Membership or Membership The selected boarding package offered by Alterreno, namely Passage™, Rider™, Classic™, Heritage™, Custom™ or Old Soul™, each providing a defined combination of accommodation, care, management, training and additional benefits, as described in the applicable Membership programme.
Boarding Services The accommodation, feeding, daily care, supervision, management and other services expressly included in the selected Horse Boarding Membership.
Boarding Fees The amounts payable by the Owner for the Boarding Services included in the selected Membership, excluding the A.P.A. and any Additional Services unless expressly stated otherwise.
Reservation Deposit The amount payable upon confirmation of the Agreement to secure the Horse’s place at Alterreno. This amount corresponds to the full A.P.A. applicable to the selected Membership. It is non-refundable if the Owner cancels the reservation or the Horse fails to arrive, subject to applicable law. Upon the Horse’s arrival, the Reservation Deposit automatically becomes the refundable A.P.A.
Advance Provisioning Allowance (A.P.A.) A refundable deposit held by Alterreno following the Horse’s arrival and used to cover Additional Services and expenses incurred on behalf of the Owner. The applicable amount depends on the selected Membership. Expenses are deducted from the A.P.A. and any unused balance is refunded in accordance with this Agreement.
Additional Services Any service, product, treatment or expense not expressly included in the selected Horse Boarding Membership, including additional training, private riding lessons, veterinary interventions, medications, supplements, farrier services, transport and other services requested by the Owner or reasonably required for the Horse’s welfare.
Private Groom A grooming service assigned to the care and management of a maximum of 5 (five) horses, belonging to one or more Owners as agreed by Alterreno. The service is provided 7 (seven) days per week, including weekends and public holidays, through staff arrangements established by Alterreno. The designation does not imply the exclusive assignment of an individual groom to a single horse.
Feeding Programme The nutritional plan established and managed by Alterreno for each Horse, based on professional assessments, individual requirements and ongoing observation.
Professional Interventions Services provided by qualified external professionals, including veterinarians, farriers, osteopaths, dentists, physiotherapists and other specialists involved in the Horse’s health, welfare or management.
Emergency Intervention Any veterinary or other professional treatment reasonably considered necessary to protect the Horse’s health or welfare where immediate action is required and obtaining prior authorisation from the Owner is not reasonably practicable.
Commencement Date The agreed date on which the boarding period begins and from which Boarding Fees become payable, regardless of the Horse’s actual Arrival Date, unless otherwise expressly agreed in writing.
Arrival Date The date on which the Horse physically arrives at Alterreno and is admitted to the facility. On this date, the Reservation Deposit is automatically converted into the refundable A.P.A.
Minimum Term The minimum contractual boarding period of 6 (six) consecutive months, commencing on the agreed Commencement Date regardless of the Horse’s actual Arrival Date, unless otherwise specified in writing.
Early Termination Termination of the Agreement by the Owner before expiry of the Minimum Term, subject to the notice requirements, applicable charges and other conditions established in this Agreement.
Working Day Any day from Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays observed in Italy, unless expressly stated otherwise.
Written Notice Any formal communication sent by email to the designated address of the receiving party or through another official communication channel expressly accepted by Alterreno.
Biosecurity Procedures The health, hygiene, vaccination, isolation and disease-prevention measures established by Alterreno to protect horses, personnel and visitors.
Force Majeure Any event beyond the reasonable control of the affected party that prevents or materially delays the performance of contractual obligations, including natural disasters, epidemics, governmental restrictions, war, fires, floods, strikes or interruptions of essential utilities.
Applicable Law The laws and mandatory legal provisions of Italy governing this Agreement, including any applicable consumer protection and animal welfare legislation.

a) References to the singular include the plural and vice versa.
b) References to the Owner include any person duly authorised to act on the Owner’s behalf.
c) References to a Membership include the services, conditions and fees applicable to that Membership at the time of entering into the Agreement, unless subsequently amended by written agreement.
d) References to days mean calendar days unless expressly identified as Working Days.
e) References to written agreements, approvals or notices include communications by email or other electronic means expressly accepted by Alterreno.
f) Headings are included for convenience and shall not affect the interpretation of this Agreement.

h) Any provision found to be invalid or unenforceable under Applicable Law shall be interpreted or limited to the extent permitted by law without affecting the validity of the remaining provisions.
1Feeding and Nutritional Management
1.1 Alterreno retains full and exclusive authority to establish, monitor and adjust each Horse’s Feeding Programme based on veterinary, osteopathic and nutritional assessments, together with daily observation.
1.2 Any request made by the Owner may be considered only where it is compatible with the Horse’s health and welfare and is approved by Alterreno.
1.3 Any feed, supplement or nutritional product that is not included within Alterreno’s standard Feeding Programme shall be charged separately to the Owner. Where dedicated storage is required for such products, the purchase, provision and maintenance of a suitable dedicated feed container shall also be entirely at the Owner’s expense.
2Medication and Supplement Administration
2.1 The administration of medications, supplements and treatments shall be carried out exclusively by Alterreno personnel in accordance with veterinary prescriptions or professional recommendations.
2.2 By entering into this Agreement, the Owner authorises Alterreno to administer any prescribed medication or treatment without requiring separate approval on each occasion.
3Veterinary and Extraordinary Interventions
3.1 Alterreno shall coordinate all veterinary, farrier, osteopathic, dental, physiotherapy or other Professional Interventions required during the Horse’s stay.
3.2 The A.P.A. shall be used to pay for such services without requiring prior approval from the Owner unless the available balance is insufficient.
3.3 Where the A.P.A. requires replenishment, the Owner shall restore it to the required amount within 4 (four) Working Days of Written Notice.
3.4 Alterreno shall keep the Owner reasonably informed of any significant medical event and the actions taken.
4Communication and Owner Interaction
4.1 Alterreno shall provide updates regarding the Horse’s health, training and wellbeing according to the selected Membership.
4.2 Communication shall take place through the designated email address or other official communication channel used by Alterreno.
5Operational Trust
5.1 Alterreno’s boarding programme is based upon professional judgement and operational autonomy.
5.2 By placing a Horse at Alterreno, the Owner entrusts the daily management of the Horse to Alterreno’s professional team.
5.3 Persistent operational interference, abusive conduct or behaviour that prevents Alterreno from properly managing the Horse may result in immediate termination of this Agreement.
5.4 In such circumstances, all Boarding Fees already paid shall remain non-refundable, subject to Applicable Law.
6Payment Terms
6.1 Reservation Deposit
6.1.1 Upon confirmation of the Agreement, the Owner shall pay a Reservation Deposit equal to the full amount of the A.P.A. applicable to the selected Horse Boarding Membership.
6.1.2 The Reservation Deposit secures the Horse’s place at Alterreno for the agreed boarding period and is non-refundable if the Owner cancels the reservation or the Horse does not arrive on the agreed Commencement Date and the reservation is subsequently cancelled or abandoned, except where otherwise required by Applicable Law.
6.1.3 Upon the Horse’s physical arrival at Alterreno, the Reservation Deposit shall automatically be converted into the A.P.A., becoming a refundable deposit available to cover Additional Services and expenses incurred on behalf of the Owner during the Horse’s stay.
6.1.4 The Reservation Deposit shall not be deducted from the Boarding Fees, as it is allocated exclusively to the A.P.A. upon the Horse’s arrival.
6.1.5 The reservation shall become binding only upon receipt of the Reservation Deposit.
6.2 Monthly Boarding Fees
6.2.1 The Boarding Fees applicable to the selected Membership shall be paid in equal monthly instalments in advance throughout the agreed boarding period.
6.2.2 Monthly instalments shall be due on the first day of each calendar month unless otherwise agreed in writing.
6.2.3 The Reservation Deposit referred to in Clause 6.1 shall not constitute an advance payment towards the Boarding Fees and shall not reduce the monthly instalments due.
6.2.4 Late Arrival
The Boarding Fees shall accrue from the agreed Commencement Date, irrespective of the Horse’s actual Arrival Date. Any delay in the Horse’s arrival attributable to the Owner or the Horse shall not entitle the Owner to a reduction, refund, credit or postponement of the Boarding Fees. The Minimum Term shall also commence on the originally agreed Commencement Date, unless otherwise expressly agreed in writing by Alterreno.
6.3 Private Groom
6.3.1 For the purposes of Alterreno’s Horse Boarding Memberships and these Terms and Conditions, the term “Private Groom” means a grooming service assigned to the care and management of a maximum of 5 (five) horses.
6.3.2 A Private Groom may therefore be assigned to up to 5 (five) horses belonging to the same Owner or, where expressly agreed by Alterreno, to different Owners participating in the same management arrangement.
6.3.3 The Private Groom service shall be provided 7 (seven) days per week, including weekends and public holidays, in accordance with the working schedules and staff arrangements established by Alterreno.
6.3.4 The designation “Private Groom” does not mean that the groom is assigned exclusively to one individual Horse. Exclusive assignment to a single Horse constitutes a separate arrangement and must be expressly agreed in writing with Alterreno.
6.3.5 Where the number of horses assigned to the Private Groom exceeds 5 (five), Alterreno shall arrange additional grooming resources as necessary. Any corresponding additional cost shall be quoted separately and borne by the relevant Owner or Owners.
6.4 Additional Services
6.4.1 Riding lessons, training programmes and any service not expressly included in the selected Horse Boarding Membership, as described at https://alterrenoclub.com/membership/horse-boarding-memberships/, shall be charged separately at Alterreno’s rates in force at the time the service is provided, subject to any applicable Membership discounts.
6.5 Livery Membership Benefits and Lesson Discounts
6.5.1 Owners holding an active Alterreno Horse Boarding Membership (Passage™, Rider™, Classic™, Heritage™, Custom™ or Old Soul™) shall be entitled to a 30% (thirty per cent) discount on private riding lessons with the following instructors:
a) Giulia Mancini: €63 per hour instead of €90 per hour.
b) Angelika Schneider: €126 per hour instead of €180 per hour.
c) Rolando Heuberger: €126 per hour instead of €180 per hour.
6.5.2 These preferential rates shall apply exclusively for the duration of the Owner’s active Horse Boarding Membership and shall be subject to instructor availability.
6.5.3 Private riding lessons shall be booked separately and are not included in the Boarding Fees unless expressly stated in the selected Membership.
6.5.4 The discounts shall not be cumulative with other promotions, discounts or preferential rates unless expressly agreed in writing by Alterreno.
6.6 Advance Provisioning Allowance (A.P.A.)
6.6.1 An A.P.A. is required for every Horse. Its amount depends on the selected Horse Boarding Membership.
6.6.2 The A.P.A. shall initially be paid as a Reservation Deposit in accordance with Clause 6.1 and shall automatically become a refundable deposit upon the Horse’s physical arrival at Alterreno.
6.6.3 The A.P.A. may be used by Alterreno to pay expenses incurred on behalf of the Owner, including veterinary care, medications, supplements, farrier services, transport and any other authorised Additional Services or costs relating to the Horse.
6.6.4 All authorised expenses shall be deducted from the A.P.A. and recorded in an itemised statement.
6.6.5 Any unused A.P.A. balance shall be refunded within 30 (thirty) days following termination of the Agreement and the Horse’s departure, after deduction of any outstanding authorised expenses.
6.6.6 If the Horse does not arrive at Alterreno and the reservation is cancelled or abandoned by the Owner, the Reservation Deposit shall not be converted into a refundable A.P.A. and shall remain non-refundable, subject to Applicable Law.
6.7 A.P.A. Replenishment
6.7.1 Whenever the A.P.A. balance falls below 25% (twenty-five per cent) of its original value, Alterreno may request that it be replenished.
6.7.2 The Owner shall restore the A.P.A. to its original amount within 4 (four) Working Days of Written Notice.
6.8 Non-Refundable Payments
6.8.1 Except for any unused balance of the A.P.A. and any refunds required by Applicable Law, Boarding Fees already paid are non-refundable, subject to the provisions of this Agreement.
6.8.2 The Reservation Deposit shall be non-refundable in the event of cancellation or failure of the Horse to arrive where the reservation is subsequently cancelled or abandoned by the Owner, in accordance with Clause 6.1.
6.8.3 Upon the Horse’s arrival, the Reservation Deposit shall cease to be treated as a non-refundable reservation payment and shall become the refundable A.P.A., subject to deductions for authorised expenses.
6.9 Minimum Term and Early Termination
6.9.1 The minimum duration of this Agreement is 6 (six) consecutive months, commencing on the agreed Commencement Date regardless of the Horse’s actual Arrival Date.
6.9.2 The Owner may terminate the Agreement before expiry of the Minimum Term by giving Written Notice.
6.9.3 Where the Owner terminates the Agreement before expiry of the Minimum Term, the Owner shall pay Alterreno an early termination indemnity equal to 3 (three) months of the Boarding Fees applicable to the selected Horse Boarding Membership, in addition to any outstanding amounts due up to the Horse’s departure date.
6.9.4 Where Alterreno terminates the Agreement pursuant to Clause 12.1(c) or 12.1(e), as a result of the Owner’s breach of these Terms and Conditions or misconduct, the Owner shall pay Alterreno a termination indemnity equal to 3 (three) months of the Boarding Fees applicable to the selected Horse Boarding Membership, in addition to any outstanding amounts due up to the Horse’s departure date.
6.9.5 The indemnities provided under Clauses 6.9.3 and 6.9.4 shall not be cumulative. Only one termination indemnity, equal to a maximum of 3 (three) months of Boarding Fees, may be charged in connection with the same termination.
6.9.6 No Boarding Fees or indemnities shall be charged twice in respect of the same period or loss. All termination indemnities shall be subject to Applicable Law.
6.9.7 Where the Owner cancels the reservation before the Horse’s arrival, the Reservation Deposit shall remain non-refundable in accordance with Clause 6.1, subject to Applicable Law.
6.10 Late Payments
6.10.1 All payments shall be made by their due dates.
6.10.2 Any amount remaining unpaid for more than 7 (seven) days shall be deemed overdue.
6.10.3 Alterreno reserves the right to suspend non-essential services or terminate this Agreement after Written Notice if overdue amounts remain unpaid. Essential care required for the Horse’s welfare shall not be suspended.
7Veterinary, Farrier and External Professional Costs
7.1 Unless expressly included in the selected Membership, all veterinary, farrier, dental, osteopathic, physiotherapy, laboratory, transport and other external professional costs shall be borne exclusively by the Owner.
7.2 Alterreno may settle such costs on the Owner’s behalf and deduct the corresponding amounts from the A.P.A.
7.3 Where the A.P.A. is insufficient, the Owner shall reimburse the outstanding balance within 4 (four) Working Days of Written Notice.
8Emergency Authority
8.1 Where immediate intervention is reasonably required for the Horse’s welfare and the Owner cannot be contacted within a reasonable time, Alterreno is authorised to obtain any veterinary or professional treatment considered necessary.
8.2 The Owner accepts responsibility for all costs arising from such intervention.
9Liability
9.1 Alterreno shall exercise reasonable skill and care in the management and supervision of every Horse.
9.2 Horses are living animals and their behaviour cannot be guaranteed.
9.3 To the extent permitted by Applicable Law, Alterreno shall not be liable for illness, injury, escape, theft, death or any consequential loss suffered by the Owner unless such loss results from Alterreno’s breach of its legal or contractual obligations. Nothing in this Agreement shall exclude or limit liability where such exclusion or limitation is prohibited by law, including liability arising from wilful misconduct or gross negligence.
9.4 Alterreno shall not be liable for damage to tack, rugs, equipment, trailers, vehicles or other personal property except where such damage results from a breach of its legal or contractual obligations for which liability cannot lawfully be excluded.
10Admission Requirements
10.1 Every Horse admitted to Alterreno shall comply with all applicable legal requirements and Alterreno’s Biosecurity Procedures.
10.2 Before arrival, the Owner shall provide:
a) Proof of current vaccinations.
b) Any health documentation required by law.
c) Details of current medications or ongoing treatments.
d) Any behavioural information relevant to the safe management of the Horse.
10.3 Alterreno reserves the right to refuse admission or require temporary isolation where necessary to protect the health and welfare of other horses.
11Insurance
11.1 The Owner remains responsible for maintaining any insurance considered appropriate, including mortality insurance and third-party liability insurance.
11.2 Alterreno does not insure horses against illness, injury, accident, theft or death unless expressly agreed in writing.
12Right to Refuse or Terminate
12.1 Alterreno reserves the right to refuse admission or terminate this Agreement with immediate effect where:
a) The Horse presents a contagious disease.
b) The Horse’s behaviour creates an unreasonable risk to people or other horses.
c) The Owner repeatedly breaches these Terms and Conditions.
d) Continued boarding would compromise animal welfare or the safe operation of the facility.
e) The Owner engages in disrespectful, aggressive, abusive, threatening or otherwise inappropriate behaviour towards Alterreno’s staff, management, instructors, external professionals, other members or visitors, or acts in a manner that materially disrupts the professional, respectful and safe environment of the facility.
12.2 Any outstanding amounts shall remain immediately due and payable.
12.3 Where termination occurs after the Horse’s arrival, any unused A.P.A. balance shall be refunded in accordance with Clause 6.6, after deduction of authorised expenses and subject to Applicable Law.
13Force Majeure
13.1 Alterreno shall not be liable for any delay or failure to perform its obligations where such delay or failure results from events beyond its reasonable control, including epidemics, governmental restrictions, natural disasters, floods, fires, war, strikes or interruptions of utilities, subject to Applicable Law.
14Governing Law and Jurisdiction
14.1 These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Italy.
14.2 Subject to any mandatory provisions of Applicable Law, including those concerning consumer jurisdiction, any dispute arising out of or in connection with this Agreement shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Court of Pisa.
