Core Focus Areas

The programme emphasises developing a feel for softness in contact with the rope at any distance. It includes advanced groundwork with obstacles and work on emotional and physical fitness. Work in hand covers overstepping, jaw softening, leg-yield and shoulder-in from the ground. Liberty work progresses from enclosed areas to larger spaces, including changes of direction and locating one’s handler when working with multiple horses. Trailer loading and advanced groundwork prepare for professional-level capability.

HORSEMANSHIP REFINEMENT:
Feel development: simulations for softness, refined rope contact, subtle communication at any distance
Advanced groundwork: obstacles, emotional fitness challenges, physical conditioning through varied patterns
Work in hand progression: overstepping, jaw and neck softening, leg-yield, shoulder-in from ground position
Liberty advancement: bigger areas, change of direction mastery, multiple horses, finding human exercises
Practical skills: trailer loading, advanced patterns, professional-level groundwork capability
From work to refinement
Development

Across the eight-week progression students reconnect with core skills through orientation, safety guidance followed by a review of groundwork. Training then develops communication and pattern work before refining feel, timing and impulsion. Imagination is introduced through adaptable pattern work. Suppleness is developed through lateral work including leg-yield, shoulder-in, travers and renvers. The clover-leaf pattern improves control and counter-canter supports balance and jumping progress with cross-country elements. Hack work builds confidence while canter training emphasises balance, transition quality and consistent impulsion.

STRUCTURE:
Weeks 1–2: Reconnect and Revisit- welcome, orientation, safety, expectations, logistics, tutor and horse introductions and review of groundwork and ridden basics
Weeks 3–4: Develop and Grow- progressive groundwork and ridden exercises, strengthening communication, patterns and team–horse interaction
Week 5: Refine Feel- focus on timing, softness and clearer aids
Week 6: Refine Impulsion- forward intention without speed, improving balance and transitions
Week 7: Imagination- creative patterns and adaptable problem-solving
Week 8: Integration and Celebration- consolidation of skills, practical application and course completion
