Born in Singapore in 1958 and raised in Australia, Linda grew up riding in Pony Club and gymkhana. As an adult, she trained as an esthetician and became education director for an Australian skincare company. But horses called her back. She bought a Thoroughbred with dreams of eventing, only to find the horse nearly impossible to handle. Dressage methods failed. Traditional training failed. She considered dressage “the most boring thing possible” and found herself stuck with a difficult horse and no path forward.
In 1989, everything changed. In a tack store, Linda saw videos of Pat Parelli demonstrating bridleless riding and horses responding with willingness, softness and joy. What she witnessed was unlike anything she had seen in traditional riding. She attended one of Pat's clinics in Australia whilst he was touring internationally. The results with her difficult horse were immediate and profound. Linda found success where every other method had failed.
What happened next shaped the equestrian world for decades. Linda brought her skills in marketing, education and business strategy to what would become Parelli Natural Horsemanship. She moved to America in 1992 and together with Pat, they co-founded what became a global movement spanning 76 countries, over one million students, 200 licensed professionals and a philosophy that fundamentally shifted how the horse industry approaches training.
But Linda's contribution extended far beyond business acumen. For 30 years, she developed curriculum, taught internationally, created educational systems and became one of the most recognised voices in natural horsemanship. She understood something profound: the principles of natural horsemanship needed to evolve beyond technique into something deeper, something that placed the horse's emotional wellbeing at the absolute centre.
In 2022, after three decades of building Parelli Natural Horsemanship, Linda launched her own programme: Happy Horse Happy Life. Drawing on over 30 years of leading world change in horse training, Linda created a curriculum focused on one revolutionary idea: the happiness of the horse is not a byproduct of good training but the foundation of it.
Her Happy Horse Training Curriculum teaches riders how to "talk horse" to understand equine psychology, read behaviour, solve problems through connection rather than control and develop leadership that horses choose to follow. It is compassionate training. Mindful horsemanship. Insightful teaching. It represents the evolution of everything she spent decades building, now offered through her unique lens and voice.
Linda's approach synthesises natural horsemanship wisdom with insights into compassionate leadership, psychological connection and the secrets to developing willing, joyful horses. She has created a 19-badge system that guides riders through progressive development, a 10-module "How to Talk Horse" method that breaks down equine communication and the Pegasus Personal Growth programme that recognises horsemanship as a path to human development as much as equine training.
Today, Linda travels internationally teaching clinics, developing curriculum and empowering riders to create partnerships based on happiness, trust and mutual respect. Her work has touched millions of horses and riders worldwide, proving that when you prioritise the horse's emotional state, everything else follows naturally.

THE PHILOSOPHY
The happiness of the horse is not a byproduct of good training but the foundation of it. For Linda, horsemanship is about becoming someone horses want to follow. She teaches that horses don’t care about your outfit, your credentials or your ambitions, they need you to know how to reach them emotionally and psychologically.
When humans prioritise the horse’s mind, emotions and nature, everything else follows naturally: performance, willingness, partnership. Linda’s approach synthesises decades of natural horsemanship wisdom with insights into compassionate leadership and psychological connection.
She believes real leadership begins with care, that emotional connection builds trust no technique can replace, and that when horses and humans feel safe, respected and joyful, learning flourishes.
True leadership begins with care. Emotional connection builds trust that no technique can replace.
Understanding the horse’s psychology and body language creates clarity in training and communication.
Fulfilment matters. When horses and humans feel safe, respected and joyful, learning flourishes.
When the relationship is right, performance follows naturally without pressure, resistance or fear.
Why LINDA PARELLI at Alterreno
Linda Parelli’s presence at Alterreno represents a powerful alignment of philosophies. Her visit to Alterreno in September 2023 marked a significant moment for the centre and its community. For riders at Alterreno seeking to deepen their understanding of horse psychology, improve communication from the ground up and develop leadership skills that inspire rather than intimidate, Linda’s Happy Horse philosophy offers a transformative path. Her work teaches riders to see problems as communication, resistance as information and training as conversation, principles that resonate deeply with Angelika Schneider’s vision for Alterreno: a place where horses are honoured, humans are transformed and partnership is earned through understanding rather than force.
